this is what I do
I like to design things or design ways to help market things. Helping small businesses develop and hone their identity and message is my favorite thing. Portfolio below.
design
I’ve always been interested in the design and usage of logos, iconography, and typography - the visual and pretty bits needed for effective marketing. Using these to design a consistent brand and identity - or even a beautiful birth or wedding announcement - has been the focus of my career.
marketing
Incorporating design elements - colors, logos, text, and images - into a cohesive branding and promotion strategy is what marketing means to me. Whether it’s a simple logo, a website, or a purely utilitarian price book, it’s important to me that the look and feel are consistent whatever the context or platform.

Kore Flooring
Branding, Merchandising, Web Design, Product Photography, Illustration
A year-old flooring distributor needed new marketing materials and a website to spotlight their expanding product lines. They used their company name on some things and their initial supplier’s branding on merchandising, which lead to considerable customer confusion.
I suggested starting fresh with a new brand name and look that encompassed all of their products regardless of supplier. I proposed many names but always returned to Kore for its simplicity, connotation, and because it flowed well with floor and flooring.
Surface Art, Inc.
Branding, Merchandising, Marketing Communication, Sales Support, Web Design, Product Photography, Illustration, and even IT
This is where I spent 10 years, first as the Marketing and IT Manager (their first staffed position in both fields), and finally as the Director of Digital Content. I worked hard to establish a cohesive identity for Surface Art, whose original logo and merchandising materials were designed in Microsoft products. After nine years, I finally got to redesign the logo and wordmark. It was a huge moral victory.
I did a little bit of everything here, which is the fun - and challenge - of working at small companies. From 100-page price books with thousands of SKUs, to product photography, to a little interior design - it was a lot of fun. Then I moved on.
Gunn Sports Boosters
Branding, Web Design, Store Setup, Email Marketing, Social Media, Non-profit
Gunn Sports Boosters is a community non-profit that supports student athletes and athletic programs at Gunn High School in the Bay Area. They needed a new website with better online purchasing and fundraising capabilities, and standardized logos and marketing for social media.
Sidebar: yes, their logo is what some call a “Georgia G” (but I call a Packer G), and has been used for years.

Here are some other things I’ve worked on.
